About Tierrasanta Village Movement

Tierrasanta Village is a member-driven community for adults age 50+ who want to stay connected, engaged, independent, and involved in the neighborhood they call home.

For nearly two decades, Tierrasanta Village has been building something special: a community where people look out for one another, share their time and talents, discover new interests, and find support through a network of neighbors they can count on.

We are part of the nationwide Village Movement, a growing network of more than 250 community-based organizations across the country, helping people age well in their own homes and communities.

What Is a Village?

A Village is not a housing development, assisted living community, or senior center.

It is a community of people helping people, designed to help older adults age in place, meaning they can remain safely and independently in the homes and community they know and love as they grow older.

Aging brings both opportunities and challenges. The Village helps members navigate both by providing opportunities for connection, learning, activity, volunteering, and practical support.

Members come together to build friendships, participate in activities, learn from one another, volunteer, and find support when they need it. Some members may need a ride or a helping hand. Others may have time, skills, or experience they would like to share. Often, people do both.

That's the beauty of the Village model:

Today you may be the person who needs a little help. Tomorrow, you may be the person giving it.

What Makes the Village Special?

We believe aging well is about more than staying healthy. It's about staying connected to people, purpose, and community.

Our goal is to help older adults in San Diego:

  • Stay independent in the homes and neighborhoods they love
  • Build meaningful connections and friendships
  • Discover activities and experiences that keep life interesting
  • Continue learning and growing
  • Share their skills and talents with others
  • Find practical support when challenges arise
  • Remain active and involved in the community

Membership isn't simply a list of programs to attend. It's an opportunity to become part of a community.

The benefits of Village membership can be both tangible and intangible: a ride when you need one, help with technology, a friendly visit, a new activity to try, or simply the comfort of knowing you belong to a community.

Our members participate in social gatherings, educational programs, wellness and fitness activities, interest groups, outings, volunteer opportunities, and member-to-member support. We also connect members with helpful resources and connections to trusted providers when additional assistance is needed.

A Village Shaped by Its Members

Because this is a member-driven organization, members help shape what their Village becomes.

Members can suggest activities, create interest groups, share their knowledge and skills, help organize events, serve on committees, and contribute in countless other ways.

Volunteering is an important part of the Village model. The Village succeeds when members contribute as well as participate. Every member is encouraged to look for ways to contribute their time, skills, experience, or talents when they are able.

Everyone has something to give, and every contribution helps make the Village stronger.

Neighbor Helping Neighbor

We believe everyone has something to give—and everyone may need a little help from time to time.

A member might give another member a ride. Someone else might help with technology. A neighbor might make a phone call, share information, introduce someone to a new group, or simply stop by for a friendly visit.

These small acts can make a big difference.

They create the connections that help people feel known, valued, and supported, and they make a stronger community for everyone.

Our Mission

To help older adults remain connected, engaged, and independent in their own homes and community through a network of neighbors helping neighbors.

A Village Built by Tierrasanta

Tierrasanta Village began in 2008 because local residents believed people should have the opportunity to grow older in the community they know and love, with the relationships, resources, and support they need to do so successfully.

Today, we continue that vision as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supported by membership fees, volunteers, community partners, and the generosity of people who believe in the power of community.

Together, we’re building a community where people can stay connected, engaged, independent, and supported at every stage of aging.
